Frontiers of Geotechnical Engineering | Professor Jiang Quan from the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering: The Effect of Microbial Induced

In this study, a series of experimental observations, data analysis, and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of adding Bacillus subtilis to mortar on the early age shrinkage, tensile strength, and pore structure of 3D printed concrete (3DPC).

The mechanism by which bacterial solutions inhibit early age shrinkage and the pathway by which microbial induced calcium carbonate deposition (MICP) fills pores were revealed.

By using numerical simulations, the enhancement mechanism of MICP on the tensile strength of 3DPC was elucidated, and the effects of interlayer slip and interlayer porosity on tensile strength were investigated using two-way ANOVA.
